Internship

Lab Technician Internship (paid)

The hands-on side of a working biomedical lab: organizing, building, restocking, keeping it running.

Hours
8–16 hours a week during the semester, scheduled around your classes.
Location
West Berkeley, CA (on site)

This is a paid internship for students who want to be close to real hardware. A lot of it is the unglamorous work that keeps a lab productive: organizing, labeling, restocking, cleanup, taking out the trash. You will do it in a highly stimulating environment, alongside engineers building diagnostic instruments and the AI tools that help run the lab, and you will pick up real skills along the way.

What you would do

  • Organize the lab: bins, labels, tool chests, and putting parts where they belong.
  • Help with electronics assembly: cables, wiring harnesses, simple boards.
  • Run 3D prints and laser cuts once trained.
  • Lab cleanup and restocking, cardboard and trash.
  • Help keep our parts inventory accurate, using our phone-based inventory tools.

About you

  • Enrolled in a science or engineering program at UC Berkeley or another college or university nearby.
  • Hands-on: you have built, fixed, or taken apart things, at school or on your own.
  • Organized and detail-oriented. You like it when everything has a place.
  • Reliable, and happy to do whatever the lab needs that day.

What you get

  • Paid hours and a flexible schedule.
  • Mentorship from engineers who have shipped medical devices, and a front-row view of how an AI-native lab works.
  • Training on our fabrication tools, and a path to more technical work as you grow.

Why Mosaic

Mosaic Design Labs is an AI-native biomedical product development studio in West Berkeley. We design instruments and devices for biodefense, point-of-care diagnostics and scientific research: firmware, circuit boards, microfluidics, mechanical design, and the software that ties them together.

AI is part of how we work every day. Our own agents keep our inventory, draft our documents, drive our CAD and lab tools, and help us test ideas quickly. People make every decision that matters, and we hold the work to the standard medical devices demand.

We believe the best way to learn this work is as an apprentice: at the bench, next to engineers doing it for real, picking up the hands-on craft and the new AI-native tools at the same time. Whatever role you start in, we want you to leave more capable than you arrived, and we want to grow people into bigger roles here.

Pay

$22–26/hr

How to apply

Apply through our form. We ask everyone for three things:

  • Your resume (PDF) or a link to it.
  • A portfolio of past projects or the accomplishments you are proudest of: photos, links, a repo, a short write-up. It does not have to be polished.
  • In your own words, what appeals to you about this role and where you hope to go with it. We use AI for a lot, but for these answers we want to hear you.
