I started Mosaic with a belief in technology’s power to improve human welfare, and a conviction that such power demands care, judgment, and responsibility. After a career spanning academic R&D, medical devices, and consumer health, I saw how many promising ideas struggle to cross the gap between concept and reality. Academic labs generate insight; industry demands execution. Too often, what’s missing is a thoughtful middle ground—one that combines rigor, speed, and stewardship. Mosaic is that place.

Our work often begins in uncertainty, where asking the right questions matters more than moving quickly. We approach engineering as both craft and judgment: knowing what to build, how to build it, and when to slow down. We are intentionally small, senior, and hands-on, resisting silos and staying close to the work. We are systems thinkers, and we prioritize long-term outcomes over short-term spectacle. We innovate not just in the products we develop, but in the practice of product development itself, embracing the latest tools for efficiency and operations. We consider ourselves mentors to the next generation of engineers and founders, and academic collaboration and internship programs are a core part of our mission.

From our lab in Berkeley, California, to a global network of partners, vendors, and advisors, we build teams that move ideas forward. We are selective in the projects we take on, balancing client work with internal R&D. We work best with collaborators who value rigor, transparency, and long-term thinking—and who see building technology as a shared exploration rather than a transaction.
