- 8 hours a week. One weekday preferred; a weekend day or two 4-hour blocks also work.
- Location
- West Berkeley, CA (on site)
We are looking for a hands-on technician one day a week to keep our fabrication tools running and help build the fixtures, cables and prototypes our engineers need.
What you would do
- Run our 3D printers and laser cutter (we will train you on our machines).
- Build cables and wiring harnesses; basic electronics assembly.

- You have used CAD (Onshape, Fusion, SolidWorks or similar), or learn new tools quickly.
- You notice when something does not work and can describe exactly what happened.
- You are careful, organized, and reliable working on your own from a task list.

- A great fit for engineering students and makers, with room to grow into more technical work.
- We are also hiring a Studio & Operations Assistant. Tell us if you would like hours in both.
Why Mosaic
Mosaic Design Labs is an AI-native biomedical product development studio in West Berkeley. We design instruments and devices for biodefense, point-of-care diagnostics and scientific research: firmware, circuit boards, microfluidics, mechanical design, and the software that ties them together.
AI is part of how we work every day. Our own agents keep our inventory, draft our documents, drive our CAD and lab tools, and help us test ideas quickly. People make every decision that matters, and we hold the work to the standard medical devices demand.
We believe the best way to learn this work is as an apprentice: at the bench, next to engineers doing it for real, picking up the hands-on craft and the new AI-native tools at the same time. Whatever role you start in, we want you to leave more capable than you arrived, and we want to grow people into bigger roles here.
Pay
$28–40/hr, depending on experience
How to apply
Apply through our form. We ask everyone for three things:
- Your resume (PDF) or a link to it.
- A portfolio of past projects or the accomplishments you are proudest of: photos, links, a repo, a short write-up. It does not have to be polished.
- In your own words, what appeals to you about this role and where you hope to go with it. We use AI for a lot, but for these answers we want to hear you.
